The marketing work that gets the most attention doesn’t just connect to culture, it creates it. And that’s what Sid Lee and Electronic Arts (EA) did for Battlefield 6. They didn’t just launch a campaign; they started a movement and a hack into the way players keep score.
EA set a goal to drive positive online conversation around the new game and went back to something the series is famous for - destruction.
Battlefield lets players cause destruction on a massive scale, and every player loves to brag about the damage they’ve caused. EA gave every player something to brag about.
Introducing: Destruction Receipts. Leveraging the “show me the receipts” mentality of social media, giving every item in the game a real-world dollar value – from tanks to traffic cones. In return for sharing their gameplay online, players received a personalized digital receipt - itemizing every item they destroyed.
The results: Destruction Receipts earned 253M impressions, with players wracking up $196B of in-game damage and sharing 166 hours of gameplay videos (a week’s worth of free advertising) – helping make Battlefield 6 the #1 game of 2025, and outselling Call of Duty for the first time ever.
In this session, we’ll break down how this culture hack drove real ROI – and how to build one for your brand.
